Your smartphone and / or tablet is just begging for an update. From time to time, these mobile devices are blessed with maintenance refreshes, bug fixes, custom ROMs and anything in between, and so many of them are floating around that it's easy for a sizable chunk to get lost in the mix. To make sure they don't escape without notice, we've gathered every possible update, hack, and other miscellaneous tomfoolery we could find during the last week and crammed them into one convenient roundup. Official Android updates



  • Samsung Galaxy S III: Android 4.1.2 and Samsung Premium Suite is now available as an OTA update from AT&T, which also brings S Voice enhancements and a new set of carrier apps. [Android Central, AT&T]

  • Pantech Discover: An update to Jelly Bean is now available from AT&T, which brings Android 4.1.2 to the table. [Android Police, AT&T]

  • HTC One: Be sure to snag the latest update from AT&T for this handset, which enables Band 2 and Band 5 LTE. [Android Central]

  • Sprint Flash: Wouldn't you know it, but Jelly Bean is now available from Sprint for this ZTE-manufactured handset. In addition to Google Now and the like, the update also brings camera improvements and attempts to solve a power management issue. [Android Police, Sprint]

  • Samsung Galaxy S II Plus: Word has it that Android 4.2.2 is now available for installation via Samsung Kies within Germany for this revision of the classic smartphone. [Android Beat, All About Samsung]

  • Motorola Xoom: After an extended wait, an upgrade to Jelly Bean -- Android 4.1.2, to be specific -- now has the green light from Verizon. The update also resolves data connectivity issues, and will become available for OTA installation in the near term. [Android Police]

  • HTC One VX: Eight months after its arrival, Android 4.1.2 and Sense 4+ is finally making its way to this budget smartphone on AT&T. [Android Police]

  • Sony Xperia ZR: Following similar updates for the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, Android 4.2.2 is now being distributed via Sony PC Companion. For the impatient, leaked copies of the software are also available for download. [GSM Arena, Xperia Guide]


Unofficial Android updates, custom ROMs and misc. hackery



  • CyanogenMod: A handful of smartphones gained official support for CyanogenMod 10.2 this week, which includes the Galaxy S Relay 4G, Galaxy S 4 (C Spire), Atrix HD, Photon Q (GSM and CDMA), Droid RAZR M, Droid RAZR HD and RAZR HD (GSM). [Android Central]


Other platforms



  • Samsung ATIV S: A leaked changelog hints at the impending arrival of Windows Phone 8 GDR 2 from Bell Mobility, which has been tipped for rollout starting tomorrow. [WMPoweruser]

  • BlackBerry 10: A maintenance update to BlackBerry 10.1 was announced this week for a staged rollout across the world. The new software brings improvements to BlackBerry Hub and BlackBerry World, additional email syncing preferences and now supports two-factor authentication for Twitter and LinkedIn. As a bit of caution, the update is also causing issues with SMS, which range from lost texts to the inability to send messages.
