Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite to Launch This Month - Tom's Hardware Guide

Samsung Electronics America is now taking pre-sales for the upcoming 0.69 inch thin ATIV Book 9 Lite notebook for $799.99. The company says it has crammed cutting-edge technology into a slim, compact form factor even though the company is somewhat lite on specific hardware details. It will be available for in-store purchase beginning July 28.

"With the ATIV Book 9 Lite, we created a device that fits the needs of a larger consumer base, while preserving the remarkable design and overall experience delivered by the Book 9 lineage," said Mike Abary, senior vice president of consumer IT product marketing at Samsung Electronics America. "To further streamline the computing experience and offer convenience to users, we built an integrated solution, SideSync, to bring together the mobile and PC ecosystems."

According to the specs, the notebook will sport a 13.3 inch LED-lit screen with a 1366 x 768 resolution, a brightness of 250 nits, 10-point touch input and an integrated 720p webcam. It will also come packed with a quad core processor clocked up to 1.4 GHz (2 MB of L2 cache), an AMD Radeon GPU, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM and a 128 GB SSD. The battery promises up to 5.5 hours.

Additional specs show that the laptop will feature single-band Wireless N connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 4.0, two 1.5 watt speakers, and a micro HDMI port. There will also be one USB 2.0 port, one USB 3.0 port, VGA output, a headphone/microphone combo, and a 3-in-1 card reader. The touchpad will support multiple gestures to make Windows 8 (64 bit) management easier. The laptop's overall dimensions will be 12.76 x 8.82 x 0.69 inches.

On Monday Samsung suggested that the new notebook would be ideal for customers with Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

"The SideSync solution creates a synergy between Samsung’s mobile and PC lines, enabling users to seamlessly switch from working on their PC to their Galaxy smartphone by simply connecting the two devices via a USB cable," the company said. "When connected, users can respond to a text on a mobile phone from their PC keyboard; view maps, photos and multimedia from their phone on their PC screen; make edits to files on their phone via their ATIV PC; and even drag and drop files from one unit to another. The result is a more unified experience, fewer interruptions to work and everyday life, and the ability to utilize the best features of both devices."

As previously stated, the ATIV Book 9 Lite is now available for pre-sale for $799.99 and will be available for in-store purchase beginning July 28.
