Ativ Book 9 Plus is Samsung's first Haswell equipped ultra-book - DigitalJournal.com

The Samsung Ativ Book 9 series was rumored earlier this year and is now confirmed. Samsung has unleashed its own line of ultra-portable notebooks.

The Ativ 9 will come in two versions - The Ativ 9 Plus and the Ativ 9 Lite. As the name suggests, the Ativ 9 Plus will be much more powerful than the Ativ 9 Lite, but both are equipped with some very high end hardware. The Ativ Book 9 Lite focuses more on a slim design while offering lightning fast performance. It weighs 1.44 kg at a thickness of of only 16.9 mm or approximately 0.67 inches thick. On top of that, it features a 128 GB solid state drive allowing for an eight second boot and two second session resume time. Finally, it will be powered by a quad-core AMD CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz. The manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) is $799.99 at the moment, but will vary through resellers and geographic locations. Meanwhile, the Ativ Book 9 Plus is in the spotlight for being the first Samsung ultra-book equipped with the latest Intel 4th-generation Haswell processor. It packs an Intel Dual-Core i5-4200U under its hood along with a qHD+ touch screen display. It has a theoretical battery life of 11 hours, but this will vary depending on the individual usage. Finally, it boasts a boot time of 5.9 seconds and session resume time of 0.9 seconds. Both models are touch screen, but yet offer two interesting features not previously seen on any other manufacturer's product line. The Ativ 9 series is supposedly to come with an axle lock basically holding the screen intact and preventing movement on the hinges as the user navigates using the touch screen. The second feature is the SideSync, an option allowing the interaction of other Samsung products with the Samsung Galaxy S4 in the spotlight. The idea is to allow for an easy transfer of files, media, and other content from the notebook to the mobile device and vice versa. Furthermore, it will allow users to navigate the mobile device using the Ativ 9's keyboard and mouse as well as offer screen share involving bringing the mobile device's screen to the enlarged notebook's. The Ativ 9 Lite is scheduled to ship July 28, 2013 and pre-orders are now being accepted. Currently, there is no word on the Ativ 9 Plus release and ship date.
