Sprint announces HTC 8XT and Samsung ATIV S Neo Windows Phone 8 devices - ZDNet (blog)

Sprint customers only had one choice in Windows Phone the first time around, but it looks like there will be two choices this summer with two new Windows Phone 8 devices launching from HTC and Samsung. Sprint made the announcement this morning as the Microsoft Build event gets ready to kick off.

HTC 8XT

HTC's Windows Phone 8X device is a well-designed device that has great pocket appeal. HTC took much of that same design philosophy and applied it to the new 8XT, along with the fabulous BoomSound front facing stereo speakers we see in the HTC One.

The $99 HTC 8XT BoomSound system includes Beats Audio and a dedicated amplifier for top notch sound. An 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.6 megapixel front facing camera are included. The 8XT is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.4GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM, 8GB storage, microSD card slot, and 4.3 inch display.

Samsung ATIV S Neo

Samsung hasn't been a very active Windows Phone participant, but does have decent offerings with Windows Phone devices modeled after its successful Android models. The ATIV S Neo will have a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, microSD card slot, 4.8 inch display, 8 megapixel rear camera, and 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera.

The ATIV S Neo will also include several Samsung utilities, such as ATIV Beam, Now, Beauty Shot, Manga Camera, Photo Editor, and more. The ATIV S Neo will be priced at $149.99.

With Nokia leading the Windows Phone market by a huge margin and now having flagship devices on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile (soon), I imagine we may hear about a Nokia device for Sprint later as well. These two devices are mid-range Windows Phone 8 devices so a flagship has yet to be revealed for Sprint.

Samsung ATIV S Neo joins the Windows Phone 8 party with a 4.8-inch display - SlashGear

This week the folks at Samsung have ushered in a new Windows Phone 8 device just in time for Microsoft’s BUILD 2013 conference. This conference allows developers from across the planet to engage with Microsoft on all things software, this year’s event bringing forth a new Windows Phone 8.1 environment for the masses. This Samsung device joins in on the fun with a newly massive display.

ativsneo

The Samsung ATIV S Neo brings a 4.8-inch high-definition display alongside a 1.4GHZ dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. Just enough to match the top-tier Windows Phone 8 device on the market today. Though these specifications aren’t quite as top-tier as some of the Android entries Samsung has delivered of late, they’re ready and willing to, again, meet and beat the rest of the Windows Phone 8 devices on the market.

This device works with an 8 megapixel camera on its back and a 1.9 megapixel camera on its front. These cameras work with software features such as Beauty Shot for “smoother looking skin” as well as Magna Camera for “turning friends into cartoons.” The latter is unique to Windows Phone 8 and Samsung – we’ll be having a peek at that oddity soon.

This device works with ATIV Beam with NFC for sending photos, music, and video to and from select Windows Phone 8 and Android devices with ease. It’ll be working with a Samsung exclusive “Now” feature as well for news and weather information “at a single glance.”

Just as it is with the HTC Windows Phone 8XT revealed earlier today, this machine works with 4G LTE data connectivity with its (for now) exclusive one-carrier release. Also note: this device is exceedingly similar to the original Samsung ATIV S.

Samsung ATIV Q is Impressive; Poses Compelling Alternative to Apple (AAPL ... - StreetInsider.com (subscription)

June 26, 2013 10:00 AM EDT Tweet Send to a Friend

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is on watch Wednesday as Jefferies is taking a more favorable stance on South Korean electronics giant Samsung.

Analyst Sundeep Bajikar was impressed with Samsung's ATIV Q announcement last week. He comments, "We continue to believe Samsung mobile devices offer [Apple] iOS users compelling alternatives by making it easy to switch, and providing more freedom to choose best-in-class features and services most suitable for individual needs...While we agree with investors that Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android has been a key enabler of Samsung's mobile success, we believe Samsung's fundamentally strong position in core technology and IP would give it the ability to extend or replicate its success on other OS platforms (e.g. Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) Windows 8, Tizen) that could become more popular in the future." Overall, he expects that Samsung will continue taking market share from Apple in the high-end mobile market.

Constraints in DRAM and NAND is expected to make it difficult for Chinese whitebox handset makers to generate profits, said Bajikar.

Apple is down 0.4 percent at the start Wednesday.

Samsung ATIV Q Convertible Does Android Windows 8 1800p Display Resolution - Gadget Review

Samsung ATIV Q 650x433 Samsung ATIV Q Convertible Does Android Windows 8 1800p Display Resolution

Check out Samsung’s other new Windows 8 device. This is the ATIV Q, a ultra thin convertible laptop-tablet hybrid-y thing that simultaneously supports both Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2! It’s true, I myself have dreamed of such reality-altering OS marriages. But I never thought I’d see the day when Google and Gates are sleeping under the same fondle-friendly display window. But the promise has massive potential. Users can access Android apps via the Google Play marketplace and also share files between the two operating systems.

While amazing, that is just one of few innovations the ATIV Q puts forth. The 13.3 inch QHD+ display will also support 3200 x 1800 display resolution (275ppi) over HDMI. Samsung boasts the display will perform well indoors or out. Expanded functionality includes an innovative hinge design that makes way for 4-different modes of use. You can lay the display flat over the keyboard for a traditional tablet mode. The display can also be raise like you would a laptop. It can be furthe adjusted for comfortability. Users can also flip the display to place it in stand mode and watch media and videos. The unit only weighs 1.29kg at 13.9mm.
